The Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS) and California Sea Grant (CASG) are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a Ph.D. in marine science, oceanography, geography, or quantitative (marine) ecology to investigate the dynamics of habitat availability and disturbance in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in coastal oceanographic processes and experienced with multivariate data analysis and gridded (spatially explicit) datasets. Additional experience with biogeochemical and/or physical oceanographic data, ecological forecasting, and geostatistics is beneficial. Familiarity with Python, R Studio, Matlab or other advanced programming language or statistical computing environment is required. The project is a collaboration with the Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) and University of California, Santa Cruz. The candidate will be advised by the SCCOOS director and will work closely with CASG extension specialists to ensure that project methods and deliverables satisfy the needs of stakeholders within the broader MPA management community.




Annual salary will range between $54,756 and $56,880.

One year, possibility of extension for one year.
